Our Origin
Born from the trenches.
Founded in 2021 in Berlin, BotMatrix began as a simple script to solve a painful engineering problem: the statelessness of modern AI workflows.
Founders Maren Schulz and David Chen were tired of stitching together fragile cron jobs, Lambda functions, and manual API calls to get a single bot to function. They realized the industry was solving the wrong problem—trying to make bots feel like apps—when they needed to build a platform that treated bots like the infrastructure they are.
Today, that frustration has evolved into a platform trusted by thousands of engineers to orchestrate intelligence at scale.

Our journey so far.
- 2021 — Founding in Berlin
- Maren and Tobias launch BotMatrix to solve their own pain points with Lambda orchestration. The first prototype is built in a shared co-working space.
- 2022 — Public Beta
- Open to developers. 5,000 active pipelines. First major release of the CLI and the introduction of the Visual Pipeline Builder.
- 2023 — Series A ($25M)
- Backed by Index Ventures and Sequoia. Expansion to New York and London offices. Launch of the Enterprise Self-Hosted offering.
- 2024 — 140+ Integrations
- BotMatrix becomes the standard for enterprise AI pipelines. Team grows to 50+ engineers. Release of the Python SDK.
